On the Need to Humanize
*Author’s note: while much of my deepest analysis still takes place in The Metanoiac Portal, I suppose I will still share some work here. Please keep in consideration that Medium is not viable financially for writers like me, but some information just needs shared as widely as possible. So consider any future articles as tidbits and teasers.*
Abuse is the only crime in which people pretend to give a fuck about humanity, and always bid for the wrong party at that.
Ain't nobody ever forgot that abusers are very very human. That's exactly why abuse is so egregious - they have willingly failed to treat nature, animals, and fellow humans with respect, failed to account for their choice or their need to be left the fuck alone and intact.
Why do you have to remind yourselves they're only human, as if that doesn't mean they should still correct themselves and be held responsible and accountable for their actions?
Why do you have to try to remind others, instead of focusing on the humanity of their victims?
Why do you keep equating setting up boundaries, stripping them of power, and forming actual accountability plans with punishment?
No, you're not helping. You're not actually addressing the abuse. And you are absolutely not centering those who've been abused, nor are you protecting the abusers' future victims.
Being intelligent doesn't mean someone can't be abusive. It's not a matter of intellect or lack thereof. It is a matter of emotional literacy and integrity, them lacking or simply not caring enough to treat people with decency.
This is not the way to lessen abuse, folks. Not at all.
