You may or may not have heard this before, but you are not your thoughts and emotions.

You are the observer of your thoughts and emotions.
They are the object. You are the subject.

Once we begin to separate ourselves from our emotions, we begin to see them for what they truly are — data.

After reading Karla McLaren, M. Ed’s book The Art of Empathy, I began to understand the spectrum emotions lie on.

There is a soft state, a mood state, and an intense state.

The soft state of any emotion is usually helpful, it’s usually as it progresses from the mood to intense state we can find ourselves emotionally overstimulated and clouded.

I took some aspects of her book and put a little bit of a personal spin on it to come up with the Emotion Decoder™️.

Each emotion in its soft state is data for us to interpret. That data in turn can help us achieve certain outcomes.

If you find yourself in a drawn-out mood state or intense state of an emotion, try grounding yourself back into the soft state by asking yourself the associated question.

Emotions are millions of years older than spoken language. They’re smarter than words and deeper than any technique words can explain.

Emotions helped us evolve.

Let’s continue to evolve by decoding the data they are trying to tell us.
