A digital game character of cyber-security and crypto expert John McAfee was sold for $1993. The owner of the digital characters can use the one-of-a-kind mythic digital character in an online fighting game called Chain Clash Arcade. Ten less unique versions of McAfee sold for prices between 15 and 30 dollars in an auction that ended Sunday night.

The Mythic avatar of John McAfee is the third Mythic avatar of the Genesis Edition in an pre-sale auction. The auction followed earlier sales of two other mythic avatars: Crystal Rose and Brock Pierce. The Brock Pierce avatar is still the most expensive one, sold for 1731 EOS. This was more than five thousand dollars at the time.

All these avatars are so-called non-fungible tokens, or NFTs. That means players own them. These tokens are stored on the blockchain in the wallet of a player. It’s up to players to store the item, destroy it, sell it or maybe just play with it.

What is Chain Clash Arcade?

Chain Clash is an upcoming collectible and fighting game powered by blockchain technology. The game is build on top of the EOS blockchain. In this game each character fights for its own cryptocurrency-inspired clan. Celebrity avatars are the most exclusive, as Chain Clash Arcade will also have common avatars to fights with. The fighting game works with earlier released blockchain avatar collecting game Chain Clash. As a result gamers can use their old avatars in the newly announced fighting game Chain Clash Arcade.

Chain Clash Arcade releases this year.

Nifties, NFTs and non-fungible tokens

Blockchain games are still very niche and not many people know about non-fungible tokens or NFTs. The number of blockchain players is nothing compared with the traditional video games market. In addition it’s a small market within the bigger crypto community. Blockchain games have a major potential to reach a mainstream audience during the early 2020s, and digital ownership over non-fungible tokens will help with that.

Blockchain games use so-called non-fungible tokens. These tokens are owner by players and represent an in-game asset, for example a collectible card or a powerful sword. Such a non-fungible token, or NFT in short, will often be called a digital collectible, but it’s not just a collectible. These NFTs can be used for much more:

  • Redemption codes, gifts or coupons
  • Tickets for concerts, cinemas, and other events
  • To underline the authenticity of products, including art and fashion.
  • And of course for digital collectibles and in-game assets.

Non-fungible tokens represent ownership over an item, and this item can be for one-time use or for eternity and physical or digital. Above everything these non-fungible tokens can be represented as a graphic inside an app. This can be a concert ticket in a special app, or a virtual sword inside a game. Because an NFT is graphic by nature, it makes it very easy to understand.
