How to be lazy and still organize parties?- Musings of a procrastinator
Parties/outings are fun. Specially if you are invited to one. You get to meet some interesting people over music and other pleasantries(beers?). But organizing them has always been a scary thought for me. The number of phone calls that are needed, to invite the people is mind-boggling. And then on the day of the party, one needs to remind them of the event again. Oh the headache! And being the procrastinator that I am, I have been postponing parties at my home forever.
Office meetings are much like the parties. Its a gathering of people who join each other at the same place and same time, only the experience can be much different. They can be much more boring than the parties. Surprisingly, for such pain inducing events such as office parties, we have great organizing tools such as calendars. Just set up a meeting and send invite to the people. Few clicks on the computer here and there. As a self confessed technology lover, I find it to be much more efficient.
After stumbling with this problem, along with a couple of other heartfelt desires, I decided to do something about them together. A coding marathon ensued and I have built up a scratchy little Android app which is a social calendar. Its actually a combination of an alarm app and a calendar.
The app lets you put an alarm on not only your phone but also on the phone of your friend with a message. If you want to go to see a film with your friend Kevin, just set an alarm on his phone with a message like-
‘Kevin, time for Star Wars. May the force be with us.’
When the alarm goes off on Kevin’s phone, he would be reminded of the outing with your photo and your message.
The app is on the Google play store and you can download it for free from here.
I am Neeraj, your lazy host. You can send me any suggestions, feedback and I promise to not be so lazy in replying to you. Hopefully you would find this app to be useful!
