“I am nothing like my father”,He said

Ever wondered if our emotional capabilities and compassion are something that our genes gave us??
Knowing that New Year’s Eve we wont be able to meet, my friend decided to barge in on us with a bottle of Rum on the night of 30th. He is a charming fellow; full of life and dreams. I am always jealous of this attitude towards life. Even when times are tough, he will always make us laugh with his jokes how ever coarse they may be.
Half way through the bottle he told us about his dad and his compassion. The way he mentioned, it looked like compassion was some sort of decease. From his point, his dad’s compassion has not brought a lot to the family but only to people around the town. Always keen on helping others, this kindhearted father lost almost all his all his earthly belongings. In the end he said he loves his father very much and adores his kind heart; everything would have been perfect if only his father was smart about money as he was kind about humanity. He ended the story with “ I am not like my father “.
Next morning after fighting the hang over of the lifetime, we all decided to go out and eat. After contemplating for hours we were finally at the restaurant, dragging every bite from plate to mouth. Our collective hang over had made us the mother of all sloths. My friend was tried and had no will to move, he said he wanted to pee but don’t have will power to go to the washroom that was 10 feet away. We all gave out a fake smile at this as no one wanted to move our lips to a full curve. Finally in the car we sat imagining inventing teleportation so that we don’t have to endure the bright light of the day and the drive back home.
As we pulled out of the parking, my friend saw a guy trying to push his car into parking. The car barely moved, and all of us looked at this guy and dead car thinking we should help. Even before our thoughts were complete my friend (who didn’t want to move, didn’t have will to go to the washroom that was 10 feet away and who was cursing the bright sun) was out of the car, under the sun shining with all its glory. He went to the stranded guy helped him push his car into the parking spot. Getting back to our car he was still cribbing about being lazy to go to the washroom.
He said, “ I am nothing like my father”
I thought, “ He was all of his father and much more”
