Recap: Day 2 of #ONA15

The ONA Student Newsroom had another fun and busy day covering the second day of #ONA15. Here are some of the highlights of today’s panels, networking events, parties, and more:

Diversity is a hot topic at #ONA15, and many of the panels and talks are focused on diversity related issues in the online media industry. One popular session was about a phenomenon known as Black Twitter, which is an online voice of the black community.

Another interesting panel was about how newsrooms can find, recruit, and retain diverse staff.

Between sessions, attendees mingled with and scored swag from representatives from some of the coolest tech and media companies. One of the most popular booths in the Midway was the .Press caricature both, where over one hundred #ONA15 attendees got personalized press passes.

One of the Student Newsroom’s biggest wins today was when Christina Romualdo attended the WNYC Podcast Accelerator reveal and tweeted out the reveal before WNYC did!

As day 2 went on, the Student Newsroom couldn’t help but notice that #ONA15 attendees have some serious style. Sneha Antony chronicled some of the best looks here.

For journalists in town trying to get across LA to cover a story to make a deadline, traffic can often come in the way. Katy Mersmann tested a mobile editing app and wrote about the experience here.

And finally, if you’re interested in how #ONA15 attendees are staying fueled for the conference, follow the #FreeFoodONA hashtag on Instagram to see all the grub up for grab at and around the conference.
