Sahyadri Apartments — Maajh ghar

I owe my life and almost everything that I am today to Sahyadri. This is the place where my roots are and let me take this year’s grand celebration as an opportunity to say that no matter where I go temporarily on my escapades, this is the only place in this world I can call my home.

Many years ago, my dad discovered this place as a home for his family and in years to come, all of us began to identify with it. My brother got a great competitive yet supportive friend circle during his crucial studies, my mother found friends of her own kind and me, even though a castaway age wise in all groups, had a great gang of friends I grew up with playing all sorts of games. In the early 90’s when the electricity cuts were normal, we used to be elated and would sing in a collective shout “ light chaliiiii gayiiiii, ooohhoooooo” and then rush outdoor to play chuppan-chupai, a hide n seek game till midnight. During exams, the same group of people would be glued to their books in candle lights, and their mothers became the human fans, using newspaper to create a stir in the otherwise standstill air.

I owe every marathi cell in my body to my fellow Sahyadrians, who brought different stories and perspectives along with them when they migrated here and then migrated away. Residents in Sahyadri love conversing in Marathi, since its very rare to find in Delhi. This might be the only reason why I developed an interest for my mother tongue and today can proudly proclaim that I am capable to have a dialogue with my relatives (who can only speak in marathi fluently). Thank you so much!

Its a society within the societies, so while there were events happening all through the year in the society, there are inter-society meets as well. Such interactions have been a great building stone for who we are today and what we stand for as beings. So Thank you Sahyadri, for not just being a building, a real estate structure but a deep rooted community that is culturally rich and full of love and compassion for each and every one who got to be here for however little or long time in this given lifetime.
