Neighborhood
Filled with so much character, history, and charm, staying in the Irish Channel was the best! Every morning I strolled around the neighborhood with an iced coffee and my dog and awed at all the beautiful homes. Each corner I turned was another beautiful tree-lined street of homes with flowering plants hanging from windows and wrap around porches. Locals were friendly, there was a huge selection of food options, and you can even enjoy a boozie drink on your walk around town!
Today, the Irish Channel is one of the most eclectic neighborhoods in the city, and in New Orleans that’s saying something. It’s popular with both residents and visitors to the city.

Being a Tourist
One of my favorite afternoons while visited, was walking around Audubon Park and enjoying the beautiful scenery. With over 350 acres of land, it’s a great park to enjoy a picnic, toss the frisbee, or read a book in the grass. It’s also super active with lots of runners, bikers, and golfers (yes, there is a golf course in the park). There are even work out stations set up around the park with instructions on different exercises. After spending hours relaxing and walking around, I could have stayed longer!
Home to about 150 oak trees, some of which have stood proudly over the area for more than 250 years, Audubon Park is one of the most beloved greenspaces in New Orleans. Located Uptown, the park stretches from St. Charles Ave, where it faces Tulane and Loyola universities, past Magazine St and to the Mississippi River, where it ends at The Fly behind Audubon Zoo.

Food Favorites
- J's Seafood Dock At the French Market (left) These jalapeño and cheddar shrimp and grits are some of the best I’ve had! Super fresh shrimp with lots of spices and creamy, cheesy grits. To top it off, we stopped at the juice stand next door and picked up boozie mango and strawberry smoothies. Doesn’t get much better than that!
- NOLA Brewing (middle) The tap room and BBQ spot is a little off the main strip but, worth a trip. Great selection of beer, delicious homemade BBQ, and a breezy rooftop to hang out and enjoy!
- Turkey and the Wolf (right) This funky little sandwich and small eats spot had so much character and, of course, delicious food. The deviled eggs were out of this world and topped with fried chicken skins. Plus, the giant bagel bite had roasted tomato cream cheese topped with fried bologna. How can you go wrong?
Food and Wine magazine Restaurants of the Year — “bestow the honor on Turkey and the Wolf, the radical, addictive, delightful, and super-buzzy sandwich hot spot in New Orleans.”
