Another way to frame the question of buying/owning something is to imagine whether you will love it over X period of time.

Avoid impulse buying. Have a means of checking in on yourself. Will I want this thing five years from now? Could it possibly be worth more than what I paid for it, or will I have to unload it for 10% if it’s cost?
