Hidden By Our Ancestors In Plain View

We tend to believe the secrets of life are hidden, and would never guess in plain view. We expect the secrets to be dashed away on a long forgotten piece of papyrus; or, buried in a tomb along with its long dead pharaoh.

Maybe they will be excavated from an ancient city, from below the modern city built on top of it? Or, found hidden away in temples, so as not to fall into the hands of invaders.

While these ideas and speculations sound fantastical (and are the basis for many an Indiana Jones adventure), the ancients were even more clever — they hid everything in plain view, where people would least expect it, and still have to do the work to discover it.
