I worked with your dad in the mid-80s at BBI. He was my first boss and made an incredible impression on me. I still often cite one of his many, may expressions: “Life is a series of compromising decisions.”
Here’s something I just shared with a friend:
He had said so many, so many memorable things. Two quick examples. At 5 p.m., he would unceremoniously come in to the office I used to share with Ed Y. (a former closet — the office that is) and gruffly say, “Boys, it’s 5 p.m. Go home to those who love you.” Then he would simply walk out.
Once Ed and I were meeting with him in his office to suggest names for an annual honoree at a big BBI banquet. We suggested Henry Kissinger. He glared up at us and said, again with that gruff “I’ve smoked 8 million cigars” voice, and said, “We’re not honoring the s.o.b. (not using initials) who bombed the Cambodians on Christmas Eve.”
A guten schluffen Art.
