My Cyber Security Interests

Ideal Job

If I ever choose to fully pursue cyber security, my ideal job in the cyber world would be to become a cyber security specialist. Another job that I am really interested in is a penetration tester. These are the kind of jobs I am interested in as my ideal jobs for cyber security. I love to do things that most people do not know how to do with their gadgets. For example, I learned how to hack my internet connection, and I blocked my sister from using the internet. After she found out that I blocked her from the internet, I just unblocked her with the speed of light, because she always complains to me about how she is supposed to be paying for internet towards her paperwork, not just for me to play.

Even though I am not sure of what kind of job I am really interested in, I became attracted towards cyber security. Since freshmen to junior year, I have been changing career pathways to see what kind of job I am really suited for. I went from the business pathway, to natural resources pathway, to Institution of Engineering and Technology pathway. This is the only year that I have really been interested in doing something, which is to become a cyber security specialist or penetration tester, even though I do not know that much about IT.

Interests

  • Video games and security

Since I am a gamer, the security in video games is really important. Especially if you spend thousands of dollars on something that you really like to play, which I actually did. Sometimes, I get really scared because what if one day someone will hack my account and all of the games that I spent thousands of dollars on will be gone within a blink of an eye, and my account which my email is connected to will be hacked too. That would mean that my facebook, twitter, instagram, bank account, etc. would get hacked, and other important information would be gone.

  • Wireless Security

Wireless security is important because today’s generation has a lot of wireless devices. For example, there is a mouse, headset, teddy bears, etc. An example of someone being able to infiltrate wireless devices is a kid who calls himself “Cyber Ninja”. He is a boy who was able to hack a talking teddy bear. People did not know that this teddy bear can record audio if a hacker controlled it, which is really crazy. Imagine if you are talking about something that is so private in your own home and someone on the outside was able to hear it by recording the conversation through a teddy bear. I would like to know more about what other devices someone could hack into, because if this 11 year old can hack into a bear, then anyone can hack into almost anything.

  • Social engineering and convincing people to do things

Social engineering is the use of manipulation towards others so they give up important information. This is a popular tactic that relies mostly on human interaction to gain access to systems, networks or physical locations, or for financial gain. Social engineering is a form of cyber-attack, and is one of the most common. Social engineers are targeted either over the phone or online. Some can pose as employees of a company or through the internet by “phishing”. This is when they can lure you into revealing personal information such as credit card information, because users think that they are on a trusted website. The entire idea of social engineering sounds wicked, but I cannot help but be interested in a job solely based on human manipulation. Social engineering sounds straight out of a movie, but I would like to know more about how many people actually do this as a job, and if it can benefit people rather than harm them.
