For many years after seeing this movie — and still today — I uncovered moments — and whole chapters — in my life in which I willfully lied to myself or conveniently forgot critical facts in order to pursue a direction I had decided, against the facts at hand, I wanted to take.

For my purpose, this movie was an is a metaphor for how easily we intentionally create false realities to rationalize decisions and behavior.
