Miralem Pjanić VS Authur Melo: Who will win between the Spanish and Italian side?

As the transfer window opened on the 10th of June, we have been anticipating different club transfers, but the swap between Miralem Pjanić of Juventus, and Authur Melo of Barcelona has caused a frenzy on the internet.

On the 29th of June, we woke up to the announcement by both clubs, that they have come to an agreement to transfer their players.

Juventus agreed to transfer Miralem Pjanić to Barcelona on a deal worth €60 million, plus add-ons, while Barcelona agreed to transfer Authur Melo to Juventus on a deal of €72 million, plus add-ons.

The 23-year-old Blaugrana player whose full name is Authur Henrique Ramos de Oliveira Melo is known to be a versatile midfielder who has great agility, technical abilities, and dribbling skills. Some time ago, during a match against Valencia, the number 8 player attempted 142 passes, and 135 of these passes were successful. This has been recorded as the highest number of successful passes that any player has made since Xavi in November 2012.

Regarding this Brazilian footballer, Messi said

“I didn’t know much about Authur, but he seems similar to Xavi. He is very safe and trustworthy, he has La Masia style”

The young player who started his career at the age of 12, in the year 2010, has been with different clubs. He started out with his hometown club, Goiás, after which he moved to Grêmio, and then Barcelona. Now we are expecting him to move to Juventus in September 2020.

On the other hand, Miralem Pjanić who has been with Juventus since 2016, is also being expected to move to Barcelona in September 2020.

This 30-year-old Juventus player started his professional career with Metz, after which he moved to Lyon in 2008, and then Roma in 2011.

In 2015, this number 5 player was ranked as the 55th person in The Guardians list of the best 100 footballers in the world. In 2019, he was ranked a second time on this list, as the 50th person.

On September 19 in his first UEFA Champions League game of the season, Miralem Pjanić helped his team to win, by transforming 2 penalties against Valencia to a 2–0 achievement.

On the 21st of September 2019, this Bosnian footballer won his 100th match with Juventus in a 2 – 1 home win over Verona in Serie A.

When this deal takes effect in September 2020, Arthur will become the 27th Brazilian player to play for Juventus.

Not trying to be judgemental, but when Authur was signed to Barcelona he was seen as the next Xavi, then about two years later, he was kept on the sideline. This raises questions when it comes to the coaching skills of Barcelona. Why Barcelona is buying a footballer whose best years has been spent playing for other clubs, is something no one can really understand.

Between the Spanish, and the Italian team, who made a better deal? Only time will tell.
