Has the internet changed everything? Certainly no one would doubt that it has, but how do you answer a question this broad? Similar questions could be, has electricity changed everything? Has the automobile changed everything? Clearly, each of these inventions changed the way the world works. I think the more relevant question regarding the internet is, with technology constantly changing everything, how did the internet specifically change the world. This is easier to answer as we can directly observe the impact the internet has had on our lives. For example, we can see how the internet brought people closer together and brought about a highly interconnected world. This interconnectedness alone has changed a lot. Long distance communication is much easier. Trading is easier. Education is easier. Entertainment is easier. The internet has created an unprecedented convenience for it’s users. So in the end, this has changed everything and made us either lazier or more efficient.
