Photographing a Donald Trump Rally — St. Louis, MO

Give me a break folks. I’m not a fan of The Donald, but I have no “fear” either. The violence you see is caused by professional agitators spurring on others. Some in the country seem to truly fear people who express an opposing view. Can you imagine what might happen to me protesting a Bernie Rally, waving signs saying “Go back to Moscow you commie”. (I’m no fan of Bernie either having worked very hard for myself for 40-years. I don’t need or want “free stuff”, which in the end is not “free”. Everything has a price.) While Sara’s photos are good and compelling (I’ve been a professional photographer for over 40-years, so know a bit about this), be careful how much you read into it. ALL photos have two sides. The ones you see (the protestors) and the ones you don’t (the supporters). Had she been truly an unbiased witness, there would be a mix of both.

And finally, about the lessons learned. I can easily say the same in the reverse. THOSE WHO DO NOT ALLOW OTHER VOICES TO BE HEARD ARE AS GUILTY OF IGNORANCE AND BIGOTRY AS THOSE THEY WANT TO PREVENT. Democracy is a two-way street. Do not forget this. IT IS AS IMPORTANT TO HEAR THE OPPOSING VIEWS AS IT IS TO TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN HEARD. For many on the left, there can only be one voice — theirs.
