13. Stepping Back into the Heritage of the Nene Valley

One of the key themes of this years Nene Valley Festival is the amazing history of the local area — kept alive by an amazing group of volunteers, networks and partner organisations that work hard to preserve this heritage and inspire future generations as well.

This year the festival has a strong program of events that highlight the breadth of that history from guided walking tours of Oundle and Peterborough through to large scale events like the Settlers of the Nene Valley event taking place at Stanwick Lakes.

Here visitors will be able to get hands on with a range of activities including making stone age spoons (and snacks to eat them with!) and even a few more hair raising activies like axe throwing and archery! We really hope that some of our visitors will be inspired by these kinds of hands-on experiences to go out and find out more across the local area!

A little further up the river at Rushden Lakes, we are also pleased to be presenting the first Heritage Family Fun Day on September 16th. The day will see a whole range of activities and installations across the Rushden Lakes site with partners from all over the region coming together to create a memorable day overlooking the water at Rushden Lakes.

In the meantime, we are also hoping that the festival brings many new visitors to some of our other fantastic historial spots over the course of the two weeks. With events happening from The National Leather Collection in Northampton to Peterborough Cathedral — there’s sure to be something for everyone.
