A colleague sent me a link to this ongoing series and I was immediately interested because I’d read the paper you authored on the benefits of video games. I’m glad that we agree on multiple things, particularly the distaste for the term “serious games” (although I understand its etymology, and that “serious” refers to the purpose, not the content, that still raises more conceptual problems, and also branding is everything) as well as the feeling that many in the health and mental health sphere seem to trivialise the video game development process (partially due to, I feel, not fully understanding what games entail). I’m still quite early on in my PhD, but I’m working on a paper on the problems I just outlined so I’m glad this is still an ongoing problem in your experience. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the rest of the series.
