Laura Borgendale,

I can sympathize with your story, our stories are a lot alike. Our upbringings are a lot alike.

I think you overlook a few things, which as a Goldwater conservative, your dad would most likely say today.

  1. the national security and security of its people is of the upmost important function of the government. It is greater than the economy or any other function.
This is why Hillary’s handling of classified information is such an issue. It includes the improper handling of Top Secret, Secret, Special Access information; including, classified information for the DOD, CIA, FBI, NSA, and NGA
  2. Taxes? Trump pays taxes.
What you see from the liberal media is taking a stab at Trump’s character because he took deductions, but there is something called sales tax, corporation tax, property tax, etc. Like all law-abiding American’s, Trump still pays the immediate taxes that aren’t included on the tax return — that’s a substantial figure. (Edit: the point missed — there is nothing illegal about deductions the media refers to, which we are still unclear about)

Trump is a businessman. Running business is not easy to do and its essential for our economy. It’s not easy to run a business with competition, government/laws, operational complications, etc. When a business doesn’t work out so well, that’s not a reason to cast blame and doubt. Deductions are essential to staying competitive and keeping the market healthy.

Trumps businesses generate lots of money. If I had to guess, they would more than cover the deductions Trump took. His businesses pay taxes, his businesses employ many people, which pay taxes. If we really wanted to get to the bottom of how much Trump (including his businesses) contributed; I bet you it would be a non-issue.

It’s amazing how many people just want more from what others produce. That is not the American way. That is not the American dream. That is not the American ideal.

From what you have shared of your dad, he wouldn’t like the person Trump is, but would respect the leader he is and how Hillary would lack the mental acuity to protect the little things, like United States top secrets. I think he would vote for Trump.

What should you and I do? That’s a good question. I’m still holding strong non-Hillary.
