Announcing our investment in Peckish, a company leveraging computer vision to automate hospitality operations

2 min readApr 23, 2025

We’re excited to welcome Peckish to the Newland portfolio. At Newland, we believe the next generation of restaurant tech will be defined by conversational, multimodal interfaces (video, voice, chat) embedded in tools widely used by staff (Whatsapp, SMS, etc.). Peckish is starting by solving stock-taking — a painful, overlooked task that is manual and inaccurate, leading to lost revenue and declining margins. Its Whatsapp-first, video-driven approach is acutely user-centric, and leverages the latest AI infrastructure to instantly update inventory, flag discrepancies, and auto-generate orders to suppliers.

Founded by Harpreet Singh and Sébastien Pradier, both former Uber operators, Peckish helps restaurants move away from clipboards and spreadsheets. Staff record a simple WhatsApp video of their stock, and Peckish’s AI turns that into an accurate inventory count. Setup is fast, intuitive, and no special hardware or apps are required.

With Peckish, restaurant inventory processes take only 2 hours/week (a 10x reduction vs status quo), waste drops by up to 50%, and revenue increases by 3.6% due to fewer stockouts and better menu planning.A huge result in a sector where margins are tight and every decimal matters.

A word from the founders

“We’re excited to welcome Oliver and Newland Syndicate onboard. Their mix of deep operator experience and founder empathy stood out immediately. They move fast, challenge assumptions, and have already added meaningful value beyond capital. With partners like Newland, we feel even more confident in our mission to eliminate manual stocktaking from hospitality, for good.”

Why we invested

Deep founder / market fit
Harpreet and Sébastien aren’t just tech operators, they’ve also seen the chaos of restaurant life up close through their families’ businesses. That firsthand experience has shaped a product that really understands its end user

Painkiller, not Vitamin
Inventory management is a famously hated, time-consuming task (20 hours/week typical). Peckish have developed a WhatsApp-first, video-based solution that fits seamlessly into staff routines and reduces stock-taking to 2 hours, eliminating drudgery and freeing staff for higher-value work.

Timing is perfect
The tech behind Peckish, powered by recent advances in AI and computer vision, wouldn’t have been possible until recently. They’ve moved quickly to build something that feels intuitive and genuinely useful.

Distribution advantage
Instead of selling one restaurant at a time, Peckish has already formed partnerships with some of the biggest platforms in hospitality tech. That gives them real scale without losing focus on the end user.

We’re backing Peckish because we see the potential for it to become foundational infrastructure in hospitality — starting with inventory, but ultimately helping restaurants run smarter across the board. Harpreet and Sébastien are building something with real depth, and we’re proud to support them from the beginning.

Welcome, Peckish.
