Instead of creating an article, this time I have come up with an interesting interview with a musician.

Tariq Hisny, a young music composer, record producer and singer from Sri Lanka, primarily works for Indian Music Industry since 2016. He has released Tamil, Hindi and English albums and singles. Also he collaborated with number of Indian playback singers and lyric writers.

According to Tariq, he also started working for soundtracks and background scores from 2019, as he now focuses mainly and more on composing.

Interviewing Tariq was a pleasure. Let’s dive in.

How would you describe yourself?

I’m just an ordinary person making music.

Earlier, I was singing songs as a karaoke artist, kind of between 2009 to 2014. Also I developed an interest in composing music. Therefore, I got into the art of composing and producing eventually.

I started composing in 2016 and began working as a professional musician from then.

Who or what inspired you to become a musician?

Composing, it’s hard to pick someone, because many composers inspired me. If I have to pick the top, I would pick Yuvan Shankar Raja and AR Rahman.

Singing, playback singer Karthik was my childhood idol, in fact still.

Apart from people, music and musical education inspired me a lot. Musical education gives me limitless possibilities to create music. It helps me create music in a way I can make people feel.

What did you study to become a musician?

I studied Carnatic Music (South Indian Classical Music), Western Music Theory, Composition, Film Scoring, Piano and Music Production.

What are your favorite genres?

Film score, soundtrack

Scoring for Film?

I already started working for soundtracks and background scores from this year (2019) as I consider more on composing.

I’m in touch with music publishing companies, synchronization licensing companies and filmmakers to place my music in Films, TVs and Videos.

Also to maximize the opportunity to get placements, I have released my last work ‘The Journey’ as an instrumental album, in the style of film score.

Favorite instrument?

Piano is my most favorite instrument. I use many other instruments in my compositions as well although I use piano more often.

What kind of music would you like to deliver?

The music that’s matching the scene or telling a story.

Besides, personally I prefer romantic, sentimental and emotional music.

What is your favorite release?

The Journey, the recently released album. I’m happy how the songs came out.

Also for the first time I worked as record producer in this album. Hopefully I will be producing all of my works in the future.

What are your upcoming assignments?

Soundtracks and background scores. Apart from these, I’m trying to make music for a social cause.

What are your activities apart from music?

Spending time with my family and best friends. Going to new places, meeting new people, tasting new foods. Just exploring the world.
