Earnest Hart Jr. is by today’s standards unique — a positive role model who offers today’s students unique insights and the value of a positive point of view — learned through hard life lessons — to help teens understand what life is like in someone else’s shoes and how to develop a positive self image and avoid problems in life.

Earnest has brought his character-building message and inspiring life lessons to the Innovative Concept Academy at Blewett Middle School; Logos School; Premier Charter School; the Whitfield School; the YMCA of Greater St. Louis Urban Core COVAM Program; and more.

Earnest grew up in St. Louis housing projects — living with guns in his family’s apartment. He learned early on to dive into a bathtub for protection when shooting started on the street. He was bullied by gangs until he said no and decided to do something about it — so he mastered karate, boxing, judo and jujitsu and became a global martial arts champion who toured the world, appeared in Hollywood movies and consulted for famous actors and professional athletes.

His devotion to self-discipline and self-control helped Earnest escape the dangerous streets of his childhood. Today, he leads mentoring and training sessions at schools and civic organizations — where he shares his hard earned lessons and non-violent methods to help kids develop self-confidence, self-respect and respect for others, enhance their personal safety, and avoid crime and drugs.

I know what this man can do. When my teenage son was mugged with a baseball bat one summer evening while riding a bike in Forest Park a psychologist friend said my son would react no differently a woman who has been raped — he would blame himself, be depressed and lose confidence. And that’s exactly how my son reacted. And he said Earnest Hart might help. Having no idea what else to do, I engaged Earnest as a mentor, personal trainer and coach to help build my son’s self confidence, self respect, and to learn how to protect himself. Within a month my son’s attitude and self confidence improved, as did his grades.

How do you put a price tag on that?
