Over the past three years, India’s civil aviation sector has been one of the nation’s fastest-growing industries. India has overtaken the UK to become the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation provides regulatory oversight on behalf of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which is in charge of civil aviation.

According to the International Air Transport Association, India is anticipated to surpass China and the United States as the third-largest air passenger market in the world during the next ten years, by 2030. (IATA). The Indian government has been attempting to build more airports to handle the increased aviation traffic. As of 2020, India had 153 operational airports, and India has envisaged increasing the number of operational airports to 190–200 by FY40. Further, the rising demand in the sector has pushed the number of aeroplanes operating, and the number of aeroplanes is expected to reach 1,100 jets by 2027. These facts and figures highlight India’s high demand for aviation jobs in the coming years.

Aviation courses after the 12th are available in various formats like licence programs, UG, PG, and diplomas. You can pick any of them per your interest, matching eligibility, and program timeline. It usually takes two to four years for an aviation course to complete (but it varies from course to course). An aviation course will teach you about the day-to-day function of an aircraft and what is needed in the aviation industry every day. It also relates to operations that help manage airports and flight activities. Besides flights and air hostesses, aviation is a vast field. In the aviation management department, many other career options are available.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, also known as AME, is a licencing program. The AME licensed person who carries out and certifies aircraft maintenance. In India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has approved this program. Anyone who completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or 3-year Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics diploma can join this program.

An AME Engineer can work as a technical supervisor and lead a team of engineers and technicians in airline companies. They may also work as engineering managers, such as workshop managers, component maintenance managers, general managers, etc. Before aircraft take-off, a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (L-AME) has to diagnose and solve the problems of the aircraft, if any, and only it is allowed to fly.

Sha-Shib Group is the largest in South Asia for imparting training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in India.

Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

Having a Commercial Pilot Certificate qualifies pilots for financial compensation for flying aircraft. The CPL is known internationally as the Commercial Pilots License (CPL). It is not designed for recreational purposes, like the Private Pilot certificate. Additionally, only licensed pilots can share the flight cost under a PPL. Pilots with CPLs can earn money through their service.

We, too, have prerequisites, just like any other professional training program:

For private pilot training, 10th or equivalent from a recognized board is necessary

Commercial Pilot Training -12th (with physics and mathematics or equivalent from a recognised board or university (diploma holders)

Medical 1 evaluation by the DGCA and relevant educational background

In addition to preparing, to take on responsibility for the lives of a host of unknown passengers, this license is often considered the next step in professional flying. Having put their trust in your flying skills, you need complete knowledge and confidence. You don’t just get the license to earn and indulge in your passion for flying (Domestic and International flights). Still, also you get an opportunity to make a mark in Indian Aviation Industry.

BBA in Aviation

BBA in aviation course after 12th is a three-year course in which the main focus is on managerial skills in the airport. This course is open to all 12th-grade graduates, whether they are from the arts, sciences, or commerce fields. If you are interested in taking more specializations, you can also pursue an MBA. The course introduces accounting, marketing, human resources, and safety management, among other topics.

Air Hostess

You can consider a career as an air hostess or steward if you are pleasant and enjoy working with people. In a plane, an air hostess has several responsibilities. She greets every passenger, guides each to their seat and settles them in, coordinates security, and much more. Women usually prefer this career, although men can do the same job and are called ‘stewards’. If you are inclined to choose this as your professional field, you will have to take up a good air hostess course and go through a proper air hostess training program.

Ground Staff

Ground Staff & Cabin Crew training is a 6-month to a 1-year professional course in the aviation industry. This course teaches you how to maintain an aircraft’s smooth operation and passenger comfort. The training will also equip you with skills like guiding passengers to the aircraft, finding the right parking spot, checking tickets, and other related tasks. This way, you will be assured that the passengers have a delightful experience on and off-board.

Eligibility Criteria: To take admission, you must 12th pass in any stream securing a minimum of 50% marks. Students should have excellent communication skills.

Aeronautical Engineering (AE.)

A degree in Aeronautical Engineering AE consists of six semesters and takes four years to complete. In this study, we will design an aircraft based on the requirements. Engineering is a lucrative, highly specialized field, and students will get all the knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of an aircraft. After attaining the degree, students will become Aeronautical Mechanical Engineers, Flight Engineers, Assistant Technical Officers, Aircraft Production managers, Thermal Design Engineers, and Consultants.

After completing your 12th grade, enrol in a B.Tech/BE program to start your career. To apply, you must pass the 10+2 science stream with at least 50%. A valid score on relevant national & state-level engineering entrance exams is an added advantage.
