Whether you’ve just sent the kids back to school with a sigh of relief, or a tear because you’re #soblessed and have been joyfully #makingmemories all summer (full disclosure, it was a bit of both for us), you might be wondering what to do with all that spare time, apart from drink gin in the daytime (kidding, we know you are busy). But bear with us. We have done some learning ourselves recently (A Digital Photography course with Nottingham College), and found it is a great way to reclaim a bit of guilt free ‘me-time’ (’cause you know it’s educational!) give the grey matter a boost and gain a new and useful skill (we now know what ALL the buttons on the camera do).

Pole dancing, welding or cake making?

We’ve been doing a bit of digging and discovered that there is very little you can’t learn in Nottingham these days. Everything from Welding (not our bag, but you know, it might come in handy) to Home Brewing (that’s more like it!), Pole Dancing, Cake Making, Sewing, Creative Writing, Pottery, Silversmithing and a whole lot more besides. Yes, some of it you have to pay for, but if you look around there are also free sessions, taster sessions and if you are on any kind of benefits, often, subsidised sessions.

Discover your side hustle

Who knows where learning a new skill might take you. We’ve also met plenty of people who have taken that something new that they have learning and turned it into a business, whether that is a small ‘side hustle’ or a whole new career. It could be a first step to becoming an NGIndie yourself!

Have we convinced you to go back to school yourself yet?

If so, here is a quick round-up of some of the places you can go to in Nottingham to get ‘Back to School’ yourself:
