The Secret

458 articles. 481 book summaries. 409 answers. Add to that countless mini projects, guest posts, ebooks, web copy, emails, contract work, product specs, and what do you get?

You get five million views here, eight million views there, 30 million in another place, and everything that comes with it.

A million readers. A big email list. Enough money to keep doing it, and the joy of waking up to this realization every single day.

That’s it. That’s all there is. That is the secret. From Seth’s 7,000th post:

The secret to writing a daily blog is to write every day. And to queue it up and blog it. There is no other secret.

Sometimes, he thinks he writes the books to promote the blog, not vice versa, Seth says. Sometimes, there are typos. But none of these modalities matter.

What matters is this:

I write every word. I don’t understand outsourcing something this personal, a privilege this important.

My entrepreneur friends are excited to hand off creative work. I’m not. I got a ghostwriting gig once. I hated it.

Sharing your art is a privilege. It’s an act of service. The honors should be attached to your name. So should the fallout. That’s how you learn.

The only way to grow is to learn and share every day. You may forget many lessons, receive others twice, and have to unlearn what you mastered when life’s current changes. But your loyal people? They’ll follow you all the way.

Your journey is cumulative — but only if you take it in public. There is no substitute. It has to be you. You have to be there. You have to show up every day.

There is nothing else to it, and there never will be. That is the secret.
