Throughout the 2024 Presidential Race, we have seen a lot of unprecedented and controversial stuff, but for the most part, they haven’t really been the fun kinds of controversies. Everything has a sort of sad and muted quality to it this time around. Biden finally gave up the throne, but only after a month of tense speculation following the most depressing debate performance anyone has ever given. Trump almost got assassinated, and still managed to turn it into the most boring convention speech in history.
We’ve hardly had any kooky moments like Ben Carson not understanding how or when to walk on stage. There have been no sound bites nearly as iconic or upsetting as The Howard Dean Scream. There have been no debacles as entertaining as Michelle Bachmann’s excellent magazine cover, or even as laughably pathetic as Jeb Bush and his lack of applause. J.D. Vance is surely bizarre, but it’s also in a kind of strange and sad way, rather than anything fun or exciting like Sarah Palin’s spectacular destruction of John McCain’s presidential bid.
