LUXURY You don’t stop sailing when you get old you get old when you stop sailng poster
If you include her age, this Tet Canh Ty is 80 years old. At the age “rare now,” but he still looks young, more active than many people of the same age in the Saigon Sailing Club where he is the Chairman. Except for the time of club activities, the rest of the day from his own house in an apartment outside District 9, Ho Chi Minh City to the workshop of sailing boat about 4km, he still drives his motorbike two times.
Opening the story of sailing, he shared, while studying at Saigon University of Law, he dreamed of designing a sailing boat to travel. Because through books and newspapers, he knows that abroad many people use 7–8m long yachts to travel the world. Since then, he has been interested in finding and reading magazines specializing in sailing boats. In 1968, after completing the Faculty of Law, he joined the Water Sports Club. At the club, each member has a water jet boat on the Saigon River, some members even buy more sailboats. Membership at that time was mostly foreigners, most of them were Americans. From there he learned the art of sailing from foreign friends. The more you play, the more you learn, the more you enjoy it.
He said, those who want to become “followers” of sailing, the first thing the players (Yachtmen) need to have is the soul of the artist, full of wandering, easily vibrated by the beauty of nature, but also not afraid to face the challenge. The bigger the waves and the wind, the more passionate the animals are, and the more they want to be challenged with their ability to dominate nature. Once the third wind was overpowered, and safely steered the boat to the shore, pride suddenly surged when talent overcame the storm. It is an experience that only players can enjoy all the emotions.
It was that emotion, he confided, that inspired him to exercise his hobby. In early 1973, he enrolled in a yacht design course at Westlawn School of Yacht Design, Connecticut — one of the most prestigious universities in America. This school currently costs about 10,000 USD / course, including documents, answering the exercises that are mainly the main sailboat blueprints, if the result is 60% or more, the school will send. continue the learning materials, but if they fail, they must learn and start over. In 1975, while working hard at the last exercises to finish the course, the country was unified, the study was unfinished. However, with his knowledge, a few years later he founded the Saigon Sailing Club and opened a sailing factory. From there, he trained a lot of yachting athletes to participate in international competitions.
To fulfill his dream of coping with fierce waves with his own design and production yachts, he opened a sailing factory and cooperated with a tourism company in Vung Tau to make a fleet of sailboats. tourist service in 1984. The sailing team has 5 ships, of which 3 are made of composite, 2 are made of wood. At this time, Vung Tau beach is quite wild but very beautiful. Normally, Vung Tau beach is empty, each week the sailing team is only operating on Saturday and Sunday. The working time was too little, the revenue was not enough, so the cooperation was unfinished for less than a year, and had to stop, each side lost 3 gold trees. This is the amount of assets contributed to the building of 5 sailing boats. At that time, 3 gold trees bought a house equivalent to 4–5 billion VND now. Because of his passion for sailing, he sold his house in Reconstruction Area (Thu Duc) for 3 gold trees to invest in sailing. It is known that this house is still available and is being sold by the owner for 5 billion VND. He is intending to buy back. Even though he had left his house for a few decades, he knows until now that some of his mementos from the past are still intact.
After an unfinished dream in Vung Tau, he returned to a job related to the training industry to earn money to play sailing. A few years later, saving a little money, he put all of his interests into his hobby and invested in the sailing factory. He produces composite rowing boats and junks. Most of the customers are foreigners, order to play in the country also, bring abroad also. In total, he has produced about 50 so far, many of which are 25 feet long.
He is busy preparing to bring 10 sailing boats to Tri An Lake (Dong Nai) to play in the Spring of this year. He plays with the desire to introduce products and also to satisfy his passion. Of these yachts, most are fully furnished with the name Honeymoon. 4 years ago, he used to bring 7 yachts to Tri An lake for tourism business. At that time, the lake had not been renovated and its operation was ineffective for several months, so it was harvested. Currently, the newly renovated lake is very beautiful, the lake surface has a large area, wind conditions are also very suitable. A vast lake surrounded by forests, undulating hills, gentle romantic waves, less challenging than the sea, so it is suitable for beginners to enjoy sailing.
He said the plan to develop this sailing boat after the beginning of Tri An lake will be Da Nang, Hoi An, Ly Son and a few other localities. Under the professional eyes of the player and longtime sail design, Mr. Nghia said that Vietnam, with its long and beautiful coastline, has the second most beautiful bays in the world such as Ha Long, Xuan Dai, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh or in Con Dao or Phu Quoc are surprising and interesting destinations for any sailing player. These are undulating waves with an attractive coastline, ideal for talent competition.
It can be said that in Vietnam at this time no one can sail past Mr. Tran Trung Nghia. Half a century ago, he prepared himself for a “play career” when he became the first Vietnamese to study sailing design in America. Later, he also opened a sailing factory to play freely …
