This koi pond sequencer uses simple clicks to adjust the frequency and gain of each sphere. Adjust the frequency (move up one note in the C major scale) by left clicking a sphere. Adjust the gain by right clicking a sphere.

Production build: MacOS

This sequencer was inspired by Tui and La (the Ocean and Moon spirits) in Avatar the Last Airbender (which is why I ended up playing the song Avatar’s Love in my final demonstration video). I wanted to create something peaceful and balanced, focusing more on symmetry and user experience than my audio visualizer.

I enjoyed creating something I could mess around with as a user, not just a programmer. Having my sequencer play in the background as I worked was actually a calming experience, giving me some semblance of a meditative experience in the middle of my Chunity-induced panic.

Plans for future:

  • add textures to the fish (make them koi fish)
  • replace spheres with lotus flowers
  • add MANY more layers of spheres (a big spiral — think Golden Ratio vibes?)
  • Water surface
  • Have schools of fish create wind chimey background noises
  • Tune everything (!!!)
  • change playhead (remove bar)
