What is Ideas Jam?

Let the people tell it:

a night to talk, think and come together to share ideas with some of London’s most brilliant, curious and exciting creatives, movers and shakers.

We’re excited to partner up with The Heights London and Well Fed Creativeto bring you a cross-disciplinary panel of speakers who will bring their perspectives on idea of ‘connection’ and how their experience and work adds to the creativity of London city.

The cross-disciplinary speakers were a collection of brilliant entrepreneurs and creatives who shared the projects they were working on. Each project, besides being impressive, had a niche focus on community and bringing people together.

Here are the ideas still buzzing in my head:

Community

  • We do nothing alone. We are social creatures. Socialising builds us and allows us to thrive. Forgetting the importance of community, and by community I am referring to groups, is one of the greatest faults of modern cities.
  • There is a gap created by how disconnected we are from our communities and one another.
  • Projects such as Tribe and GoodGym thrive because they feed our need for connecting. A deep need that is no longer being met. Humans want to do, together.

From me to we

When you stop focusing on your own success and you shift instead to look at how you can use your abilities for everyone’s success, that’s when life flourishes.

  • Start telling people, “this is what I am passionate about. I’m working on it and you’re welcome to come along.” You’d be surprised how many people end up joining you.

The importance of a story

  • We need stories. Being on Medium, you know that. Businesses need stories. But even more, humans need stories, to connect to one another and understand each other. Stories are our anchors. The control pads to our emotions.
  • Each successful idea, project or business at the event had a story behind it. For example:
//// — Tribe began because two friends became addicted to running, wanted to do a 1000 mile run and raise money while doing it. It’s a struggle and annoying to keep hassling friends to donate to them so they started inviting others along.
//// — GoodGym’s founder was at the gym one day. He realised the person running on the treadmill was using energy and electricity to run… to get nowhere. Instead he thought, what if we could run to somewhere and what if that somewhere was a place to help others?
