At the same time, modern agriculture is undeniably causing harm to the environment, rural communities, and animals. So the question is something like “how do we acknowledge and keep the good things that we get from the current food system (like abundant food for a fairly large fraction of the population) while acknowledging and getting rid of the problems inherent in it (such as massive concentration of power)?”. That’s where I wish that defenders and skeptics of “conventional” agriculture could have more productive discussions.
I definitely agree that we need to focus less on yields and more on universal access to good food, and that these are primarily political, economic and social problems.
