Great article, with a few caveats. I feel there is room in the private market for social(ized) efforts while maintaining a competitive private market - as I don’t ever see this going away. These “corporations with a conscience” have to step up to the plate and we need to systematically approach these corporate social efforts with incentives at the government level. Also, I wouldn’t be so quick as you do to undermine the efforts of someone taking on debt to better their education, you cover a lot of topics with the stroke of paintbrush. Not all people ultimately take away from college the bargaining chip of a degree as means to succeed in a competitive job market, or for that matter to go college for that reason. It’s sounds very black and white the way you describe it, and I feel more opportunistic than this! But unfortunately that is generally the case with a lot of progressive thinking we hear today. Why does the answer always reside in fundamentally revolutionizing the system as the only means to move forward? Why not instead look to the opportunities that are available to us now? So that we can move forward with what change we can make today.
