You say “The undemocratic nature of the European Commission, the executive body of the EU, means that unelected bureaucrats in Brussels are able to dictate and enforce policy to member states with little or no consultation with each nation’s own legislature.”
But likewise one could say “The undemocratic nature of the UK Civil Service, the executive body of the UK, means that unelected bureaucrats in London are able to dictate and enforce policy to member regions with little or no consultation with each region’s own legislature.”
Both are equally untrue, as the European Council of Ministers of elected Member State governments, together with the directly elected European Parliament, co-legislate. The role of the European Commission, which consists of one Commissioner nominated by each Member State, with a staff of civil servants, is to PROPOSE legislation, not to legislate.
