Letter to an old, old friend who is voting to Leave the EU
Nick Harkaway

It’s touching and courageous to start by framing this discussion in emotional terms. “What I feel is a bone deep commonality with France, Germany, Italy and the rest. I feel they are our people and we are theirs. We have been allies, we have fought and hated one another, we have come to terms. There’s no one untouched by our shared history, and we should accept our scars and let go our pain and step forward together”. I wish that more people would come forward and express this as being the essence of what Europe is about. And also to state that that commonality makes us all better people.
