“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless.”
— President Abraham Lincoln 1864
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
— Marcus Tullius Cicero
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent revolution inevitable.”
— John F. Kennedy
The machinations of villains has undermined the constitutional role of the legislative and judicial branches. Gingrich planted the seeds in the 1990's, but as soon as Mitch McConnell established that the role of the GOP was to undermine any Democratic initiative under President Obama it was a total poisoning of the constitutional well. The failure to consider Obama’s choice of a justice for the Supreme Court was merely the jewel in the usurper’s crown. And now with a narcissistic Moscovian president in power, they belatedly feel a small degree of buyer’s remorse — but oh so little if they will not stand against a modern day Richard III.
Trump will do what Trump does, which is to sow the wind with his corrupt seed, and oh so soon the whirlwind will be ripe for the reaping. The centre has not held, and this rough beast, its hour come round at last, has slouched into the White House.
Revolution is nearer at hand than fiddler’s Ryan and McConnell realize, and soon events will overtake them. Revolutions like forest fires are fueled by many years of drought, until lightning hits the wrong place at the wrong time, and then up she goes.
