Paul Ryan makes it clear he plans to run for House Speaker again for 115th Congress

But who will replace him?

The Freedom Caucus may be upset with Ryan, but they don’t have a viable replacement. Part of the reason Boehner survived right-wing grumblings, and why Ryan replaced him and a right-wing populist didn’t, is they don’t have an alternative that can win support from a majority of the Republican House caucus.

I predicted in early October that Ryan would survive if Trump loses, because anti-Trump and pro-Trump factions would turn their fire on each other (see link below if you’re curious).

Nothing that’s happened since has made me change my prediction. Even if it’s contentious, who other than Ryan could win enough Republican support to become Speaker in the next Congress?
