Real Housewives of the Republican Primary

When Trump talked about his penis on national television, the media called it a new low.

Now he’s going after Ted Cruz’s wife’s history of depression (supposedly in response to a Super PAC going after his wife’s photos in GQ), and the media rushes to tsk tsk, labeling it another new low in American politics. Personal attacks on family members are clearly worse than dick jokes, but they’re both shallow, reality show nothings.

A major candidate for President of the United States insists America should commit the war crime of murdering innocents because of what someone in their family did. He collectively blames 1.6 billion people for the violent actions of a few and wants to undermine the core American principle of freedom of religion. He advocates rounding up 12 million people and ripping them away from their families. He praises China’s actions in Tienanmen Square. He’s cultivated and unleashed a racist, xenophobic movement that will have a lasting negative impact on the country.

All of that is much, much worse. Stop acting like you’re watching reality TV, oohing and ahhing at the latest personal insult. We’re talking about the commander in chief of the Untied States military, the most powerful person on Earth. Insulting Heidi Cruz is a crappy thing to do, but not even close to the worst thing about his campaign.
