The newsroom that I have selected to follow this semester is WBTS in Newton, Massachusetts. They are the NBC affiliate in the Greater Boston area more commonly known as NBC10 Boston. Serving not only Greater Boston; but also Southern New Hampshire and Northeastern Massachusetts. WBTS claims to have the “largest team of Meteorologists” in that area and the “strongest storm coverage network in the nation”. You can check them out here: https://www.nbcboston.com

When I am scrolling on social media (specifically Facebook, and Twitter) I notice a lot of repetition in some of the posts by news sites, even using the same picture and headline!

So my question is how do you prevent that from happening? Or is there one person who manages the social media accounts for all of the news stations in the Boston Area? I am certainly looking to see how they perform and what kind of a presence they have across all social media platforms.

On Instagram they have a very interesting presence, it is like if a travel magazine threw in a splash of news every once and awhile. And while the photography on their page is gorgeous I dont think that a news organizations main account should look like that.

They also have a habit of posting multiple (3–5) pictures in one day, when they do post, which is not consistent whatsoever. However, their facebook and twitter are much differently set up. First off they use those sites to report news on, and they are a little more “professional” than their instagram.

They do appear to have a human being running their social media account

But who really knows right…?

I chose this station because I grew up watching WHDH channel 7 when I would come up to massachusetts to visit my extended family. When I moved up here I continued to do so. While I was in my sophmore year of school NBC Boston broke off from WHDH and most of my favorite people from WHDH went to NBC Boston.
