Life as an impatient programmer
Dan Kim

Hi Dan,

Thanks for sharing this thought. I recently went to New York for the first time and a day after I got back, I tried to articulate this subtle difference between the good sort of impatience and instability/irritability to a friend here in Singapore using an example of New Yorkers, but I failed. He just looked at me and said, “Huh, it doesn’t make sense. You’re making a bad thing sound like a good thing.”

I’m sending him this post. After that, I think he’ll understand, just like I do now. New Yorkers are “restlessly eager.” That’s it!

Oh, and I agree that being restlessly eager can be a great trait in many aspects of life. Knowing to identify when it’s good for is key to leveraging this trait successfully!
