Sympathy is just a starting point
Feeling sympathy for people you think are less fortunate than you doesn’t do them much. It’s not what they’re looking for. It’s mainly just a starting point for you. A feeling, that once had, should point you towards the question: How can I give them what they’re looking for?
What they’re looking for is what everyone wants. To be treated the way you want to be treated and to have access to the same resources as everyone else.
But don’t forget:
Just because you feel bad for them doesn’t mean they’re less happy than you. Humans are good at proving that happiness can be had in any situation.
