I disagree — they were attempting to trademark the word React. In order to keep that trademark they would have been forced to protect its use, so they absolutely would have had to go after other YouTubers using the word in their video titles. The whole thing was a stunningly stupid way to try to employ their fans below minimum wage to enrich themselves.
