Which will you feed?

Hi, my name is Nick.

I’m about to turn 38 years old. This coming March, my Beloved and I will celebrate 20 years of marriage.

I’ve lived a good life. But despite what I would’ve told you to the contrary, my life was ruled by pessimism. A lot of the choices I made, the overall direction of my life was dictated by the idea that things would not end well. I was always waiting for the end of the world (oftentimes quite literally).

A couple years ago I realized that was no way to live a life. I started making small changes, but the overall arc remained negative. Then in summer 2015, I saw a movie.

“Tomorrowland.” The Disney movie with George Clooney. It didn’t really go over real well with everyone else, but I love it. The central premise is encapsulated in a parable they tell in the movie:

There are two wolves inside each of us battling for control. One is light and hope, the other darkness and despair. Which wolf wins? The one you feed.

That little story has become my own personal mantra. Which will you feed? It helped ignite a radical change in my life. A total reversal from thinking negatively.

It is still a transformation-in-progress, but the past year and a half has been amazing. I taught myself to run and have lost more than 80 pounds. I’ve rebooted my career.

My life is better than ever.

Make no mistake, there is lots wrong with the world. We’ve got lots of work to do. But being negative is not the solution. Let’s start feeding the right wolf.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
