Brilliant article with the point made succinctly.
There may however be a middle ground in pricing (which I’ve seen increasingly of late) such as that offered by Sketch: annual subscription fee for the product with upgrades – with access to the product (minus continued upgrades) if the subscription is not renewed.
My preference however, for both vendors and buyers, is pure SaaS as all parties can be safe in the knowledge that the product being used is the most up to date, optimised, and secure version on the market.
