Long-time Dreamer turned Forever Believer

As I walked up the stairs I could hear a little whimper followed by an instrumental lullaby. I walked into the room to find my beautiful wife asleep. She looked so innocent and adorable but there was another person asleep in that room that had her beat. I turned to the corner of the room where the music was coming from and saw my beautiful baby boy just dreaming away.

I looked at him and smiled as he laid there so peacefully and calm. His eyes blinked and he slowly opened them and looked right at me. He is only a month old and even though they say newborns can’t see too well that early, I felt the connection. I felt as if we both knew at that very moment what unconditional love is all about. I have had so many friends ask me how it feels to be a dad and if I feel any different. Up until now I have told them not really and it hasn’t really “clicked” yet. I would say, “hopefully soon I will feel this fatherly feeling everyone keeps asking about”. Well, I feel it now and it is indescribable.

I have searched long and hard for happiness and have had so many different images of it in my mind. Every image involved some sort of materialistic vision or outrageous lavish experience. I have always been a dreamer and it made sense that I would think of those types of things as the poster for happiness. Thoughts of infinite money, exotic cars, or images of a house with an indoor swimming pool. All of those things don’t even come close to the feeling I get when I look at my baby boy. He truly is a living, breathing, dream come true.

Tonight may have very well have been the ultimate transition from a long time dreamer to a forever believer. I dreamt of happiness for so long but now I truly believe in it’s existence as I sit at home with my beautiful wife, two four legged best friends, and our precious baby boy.
