Greetings (rastaman voice). So disclaimer, most if not all of my blogs are going to be around five hundred words so it will be much easier for me to choose two for a good grade and all will be a reflection of what i deem to be cyber culture. In all honesty i just said all of that to add to the word count 😬, ok lets get into it. Today i will be taking about cyber bullying. In my opinion there is always going to be this debate of what is cyberbullying and how is it different from regular bullying. What i understand cyberbullying to be is when dumb people allows other individuals to say mean things to them or about them through electronic technology which includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. Ybarra simply agreed with this definition and added that in the online world, power is also judged by status and digital popularity, such as having a higher number of Facebook friends. Traditional bullying involves repetitive episodes of abuse carried out by one person who is viewed to have more power, usually physical, over the victim.

In my opinion the issue of cyberbullying is serious but the people that are allowing people to bully them over technology is dumb. Kids who are being bullied in person are often the same set who are being cyber bullied (yes that is a known fact) but Some people are of the opinion that kids who are only being cyber bullied have a harder time getting away from the behavior than that of the person who is getting it physical. There so call reason for this bold statement is:

Cyberbullying can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and reach a kid even when he or she is alone. It can happen any time of the day or night.

Cyberbullying messages and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience. It can be difficult and sometimes impossible to trace the source.

Deleting inappropriate or harassing messages, texts, and pictures is extremely difficult after they have been posted or sent.

First off let me say that i do know that people are taking this hole cyberbullying serious to the point where they are killing themselves over things being done and said to them n while i do agree that this is terrible I honestly don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like cyberbullying isn’t a real thing. I feel like people can just delete their accounts or block who ever is harassing them not to mention. avoiding wherever their being bullied and everything will be over. This is my opinion and just might be wrong but People who are bullied in real life or physically does not have the same opportunity to walk away without having that awkward situation of cutting ties with friends and activities that they really enjoy. A contributor on Debate.org bu the name of Jabie shares my exact view agreeing that cyberbullying is not a real thing. He went on to say that the real problem is with parenting. Not helping your child to develop emotion wall or to help them to understand that all this can end with just the press of a button. Im sure many people are of the opinion that they shouldn’t have to delete a app jus because they are being harassed online, uhmmmm why not? If you had the chance to stop someone from killing you, wouldn’t you? So why wouldn’t you delete a app to save your confidence and prevent yourself from getting insecurities and self hatred?Just doesn’t add up, i for one think thats a small price to pay ( Btw, im not defending any bullying nor am i stating that inflicting harm on others is ok).

There was this anonymous post on uproxx.com where this person was talking about being bullied for most of high school. He attempted to make a clear distinction between being bullied in real life and over the computer. He started his storying by letting the readers know that he was the new kid for most of his high school life and that he was a six foot “nerd” who hated sports. He was very intelligent and was very obnoxious about it, for these reason and I’m sure more his childhood was a living hell. “If your surrounded by people who you think really hates you in real life, it hard to go somewhere you feel like they dont”. He made the point that over the internet he could make his page private or go on a alternate website where they would not find him, clearly highlighting what i was saying earlier.

It can be argued that bullying is making someone fell powerless, the fact of the matter is victims have more power over the internet than that in person. People should jump at the chance to take control of their life.
