Friday ponderings about the real work-life balance

It’s Friday after work hours, so thought I’d go out on a limb… here goes:

In ten years, my work will be completed.

My purpose(which is really the pretentious version of having a goal and a vision) was for a long time to find a mate, reproduce and then guide the offspring into adulthood as reasonably complete and well functioning humans.

In ten years, our youngest one reaches the age of eighteen and will in my view already be all that I can ever contribute to her being. Of course, we hope to interact and maybe inspire for many years more than that, but essentially, our building the foundation is already coming to an end.

Now, if this is the purpose I found for myself many years ago, I don’t have many years before I hit the wall of pointlessness, right?

Here’s a little secret insight for the ones that are younger than me: I’m just warming up. Soon having completed my ultimate purpose, I am now(well, soon) free. Free to pursue some dreams and ideas, free to tell just about anyone to sod off. Free to go back to getting that black belt. In life, work, everything.

Wow.
