Shel, I think your are spot on what’s currently happening in the VR / 360 video area. Some stuff still looks and feels clumsy, but it is a vast area of growth and while Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard seem Miles apart in terms of costs and functionality, they both serve the same purpose: raise awareness for VR and 360° video. The new immersive experiences will blow people’s minds and will lead to new ways of storytelling, for games, movies, journalism, etc. We really do live in interesting times.
