Reliable and easy to use.

An App based on real research, about a well known online travel agency in Latin America.

1. How did you get a reliable and easy to use application?

Work process:

Skeleton: Make a development plan about task to complete the proyect.

Research, Need finding, Analysis: For every project it is essential to investigate first and go out to interview, do field work, etc. This is what gives us the knowledge about the context and about what the users say and do. This way they are able to interpret users’ needs and obtain insights from them. These needs and insights can sometimes be in sight and others not so much. These can appear in the form of doubts, delays in responses, pauses in the way of speaking or using an interface, navigating it moving forward and back, a sigh that can indicate tiredness on the repetition of a task or something tedious , etc. You have to be very close to everything, everything communicates, from a gesture, a sound, a look, the way things are located in the context, etc.

The research is very interesting, and more are the surprises that one can get to find and all the things that are learned. The good thing about all this is that it is user-centered and based on real cases. These interviews and the field study were carried out on the work of supervisors of a well known online travel agency in Latin America.

Interviewing a supervisor, while he show us some of his daily applications to manage tasks.

Needs: Among the needs, I found that the supervisors needed something to be able to assign the tasks quickly, in a reliable way and being in any physical place, the team members.

Ideation: After the problem or problems are detected, we already want to start solving them, a possible technique is Brainstorming, where one is freed and writes many ideas, so that after that divergence, a convergence is made and at least one option is reached Approve. For this we thought about a mobile application that is what we have every day at all times with us and from the same that they can have a Home, where they are shown a summary of the pending tasks, a Tasks section where you can see The pending tasks, select them and then assign them to the team members to work on it and later will be tested a version B, in which from the Team members section, you can also select team members and then What tasks we want to assign them.

Benchmark: Look for inspiration in another website of the competitor and in websites that has similar features and objetives.

Storyboard: Its so important to know the context and the flow of a real case in the life of the user in wich we are thinking to have it ther infront of us all the time and think in it and in Personas to think about real people.

Personas: Make a Persona to think about real people. To make real user centered design. All the team should know this persona and think about him when someone talks about the user.

Wireframes: Wireframes are made, first in black and white and made by hand.

First Wireframes

Testing (In-Person): You can start testing with users, evaluate heuristics about it and others. After testing with the first round of 5 users, adjustments are made and the project continues to be iterated and retried with 5 other users. In this case we performed an A / B test where we tested 2 options at the same time. For this, in order to test well and to know which one was better, in option B only a change, or rather an aggregate, was made. In option B an additional section was added, so that they can first choose the members of the team and then the tasks to be worked on. As many tests as necessary until the project works the best we can, according to the times and needs of the people who participate in the project.

First User testing

Testing (Remote): You could do remote test to obtain more results.

Final version

Final Settings: The final adjustments are made and the last test is performed.

Analysis: The results are analyzed and presented.

2. What features make this application Reliable and easy to use?

Companion: Beyond that cell phone we have it with us all the time. It is an application that accompanies the supervisor in his (everyday) task of assigning tasks to the members of his team, putting focus and pointing the way so that he knows what is the step by step to carry out his task without Have to think, without hesitation, or mistake or confuse.

Easy: Anyone can use it, it guides you and you do not have to learn anything to use it. No need for coachmarks, or tips or manuals and tutorials.

Flexible: It gives you the possibility to go back, navigating it the way you want and being able to edit, modify and undo the changes or actions taken. The supervisor can choose to start by selecting the tasks that he wants to assign or by the team members to whom he assigns the tasks. In addition, you can also choose as to tasks, as with team members one, more than one or all.

Preventive: It is designed in such a way as to prevent a user from reaching a message or action that ends in an error. It takes you on the right path and gives you what is available.

Clean: Provides a clean design, clean and with the information you need at any time. Spaces well managed, airs, sans serif typography.

Accessibility: It is designed with large buttons for easy access to them and that actions can be taken quickly on them.

Visibility and availability: The supervisor has the entire backlog of work, the tasks that are available to be worked on at the time.

All this makes the Task Assigner application reliable, easy to use and efficient, as they can assign tasks faster and more securely. I hope you found the process and the results interesting.
