Today (12 Feb) I had a seminar about the importance of developing your online presence. I’ve had my website www.nicohald.com for 2 years now, but decided early January to delete everything and start from scratch. I designed and built my website using wordpress.

Why not code the website yourself, I hear you ask?

  • I don’t want to code an entire responsive website just for my portfolio
  • Wordpress is awesome
  • I can customize my site entirely, with a mix of code and editor software

To the left is the home page of my current website. Its big, responsive and I absolutely love it. So this week I have been redesigning the site and my brand as a whole using different typography, colours and imagery. This is still a work in progress, but I feel like I am getting somewhere with the design now.

I wanted the images to fit the size of the users screen, on both web and mobile and the images are as big as the user needs them to be. Also I removed the borders, since I hate gaps between images.

This is where this concept came from, but when thinking about it being mobile it probably wouldn’t work in the same way so I experimented a little. I think this idea would work on mobiles and isn’t to far from the original design keeping it consistent.

The website still needs to be developed much much further, especially my projects needs to be updated, since some of them are quite embarrassing.

Right now I am happy with the way the design is looking, but I feel that there are still a lot to improve on. Currently I am using just one typeface “Roboto” and while I love this typeface and want to use it for my site, I feel that I should combined it with some other typefaces to give my brand that little bit extra.

The colours still need sorting out as well as the contents on each page; but I shall come back to all that at another time.
