Esports Related Professions
--
Since the turn of the decade, esports has been in the process of becoming more professional. The most visible side is obviously the players themselves who have the opportunity (for an immense minority of them) to live off their passion and earn a living by competing in an ever-increasing number of games. However, this professionalization is not only limited to players, but also affects all the competencies required by the various stakeholders that make up this ecosystem.
If, until recently, esports was mainly carried by self-taught multi-tasking volunteer enthusiasts, the constant growth of the phenomenon has gradually led the various stakeholders to (i) seek new skills (sometimes in other sectors of activity such as sport or media for example), to (ii) increase their human resources, and to (iii) surround themselves with increasingly qualified people.
Today, esports is the dream of many young people who would like to make this ecosystem their future professional environment. However, it is sometimes difficult to perceive what the possibilities are in terms of job opportunities, and therefore indirectly, in terms of educational pathways.
It is therefore with the objective of filling this gap that I am gradually trying to identify the numerous professions related to esports in order to (i) show the different possibilities to the youngest, to (ii) reassure worried parents that their children want to make a career in gaming/esports, and to (iii) help training organisations/schools/colleges to identify the professions they need to focus on, and thus define the appropriate educational content and relevant speakers/teachers/instructors.
PS: This work is still in progress and in constant evolution and is therefore not exhaustive.
