Why F1 sucks : Microsoft, please help !

How is it possible that Microsoft softwares, such as office or windows, are so complicated to setup ?
It looks like things are getting worse with each version. Yes, softwares are always getting more features, and changing ways to do things. It may be better in the end, but the setup is always a pain. Discovering new functions is sometime great, but also sometimes a real challenge.
Microsoft is focusing on functions, not on user experience. How many user hours are spent on office or windows, navigating in endless menus and options, to try to solve issues ?
Changing version is always a pain. It shouldn't.
The help function is almost never helpful, answers to questions do not match. Even in a world where our PC has incredible horsepower, the user is left alone. Nevertheless it could be possible to help him : Google proves it every day with always incredible result on web search. Microsoft is like so many websites where the local search doesn’t work. It is way more efficient to do a Google search for this site rather than use the built-in feature.
But Microsoft is not a small company making a poor website. They are a major player.
Today Microsoft is building softwares with very clever guys knowing their product by heart. For them it is really easy to find how to do things with their softwares. They understand their own language. But normal users are not experts. Even if I use Outlook or word daily, several hours per day, I still loose much of my time chasing the right options and menu. And I am not a dumb user, I went to college ! My company has setup a help center for IT users…is it really normal ?
So please tell me why :
- it is so hard to find where in the software you can change an option or perform a special function
- help never works for you, never find what you are asking. Even basic search on key words doesn’t work.
- there is so many pages on the web explaining how to do this or that : isn’t it a damn proof that the software is complex to use ?
Microsoft need to understand users are not experts. They are not like their engineers. It is possible to use the PC horsepower to really help users in endless option and setup menus.
